Shift At Midnight Tasks: Restocking, Delivery & Gas Pump

Updated 2026-09-03 · Steam Shift At Midnight

The Shift At Midnight tasks are the shop-keeping half of the night: keep the shelves stocked, take deliveries in through the loading bay gate, serve customers at the register, run the gas pumps once they open up, and keep the place clean. The store page states the job plainly — full shelves, enough product sold to clear the nightly quota, deliveries received, and a tidy store. Everything else, the ID checks and the interrogations, sits on top of that routine.

This page collects each task, when it unlocks, and where it can bite you.

The task loop in one shift

A night starts and ends at the Bus Stop. The community wiki's Map page describes the world in three pieces: the Gas Station itself, the Bus Stop where every night begins and finishes, and the Road that customers and cars arrive along. The Gas Station splits further into five working areas, per the community wiki's Midnight Mart page.

AreaWhat you do there
StoreShelves, cash register, customer checks
Loading BayStorage attached to the store; deliveries land here
Gas PumpsOutside; cars pull in and drivers wait
Break Room / BackroomTerminal, spin wheel, odds and ends; three doors lead to store, loading bay and outside
ToiletCustomer facilities, and a door the Entity can come through

The loop repeats: restock, sell, take a delivery, handle whatever pulled up at the pumps, clean the mess, then walk back to the bus.

Restocking

Restocking is named on the community wiki as one of the game's core mechanics, though that page is still a stub with no numbers on it. The official store description is the firmer source: you keep the shelves full and you sell enough product to make quota.

Practically, the chain runs product to profit. Customers pick items off the shelves, then come to the register — the community wiki's Customers page describes bagging the items, scanning the ID, and questioning the person before you finalise the sale. Empty shelves mean nothing gets picked up, and nothing picked up means no revenue.

One balance change matters here: the 20 August 2026 patch equalised product prices so that reaching the true ending depends less on luck. See shifts for the quota each night asks for.

Delivery and the loading bay

Deliveries are how stock and purchases physically reach you. The community wiki puts it simply: a delivery arrives after you buy things from the shop, it lands in the loading bay, and the loading bay gate has to be opened before you can collect it.

That gate is the risk. It is a door to the outside, in the same wall as one of the break room's three doors, and opening it during a shift means the store is no longer sealed. Board-up and barricade play matters at the end of a night — see entity for what comes looking once a doppelganger slips past you.

Storage is also where the game hands you emergency gear. The 1 September 2026 patch notes state that the first shift of Endless Mode now starts with two bear traps and two planks sitting in the storage room, and that you can buy three extra bear traps instead of two.

Gas pumps, cars and drivers

The pumps are the outdoor task, and the one that puts you alone in the dark with a stranger. The February 2026 demo patch notes, written in the game's corporate-memo voice, announced the expansion in official terms: players are no longer stuck indoors, they now have to fill gas tanks and search vehicles, and the notes explicitly warn you to use judgement about whether the driver is human.

Cars turn up at the station occasionally, according to the community wiki, and each one brings a driver. Drivers are randomised the way ordinary customers are — the community wiki lists their gender and species as varying, with personalities it describes as flirty, arrogant or honest. A handful have confirmed names on the wiki: Craig Harrelson, Grace Wong, Greta Darling, Jeffery Sprinter and Madison Gray. Drivers can be doppelgangers, and the wiki's gallery includes driver doppelganger shift reports.

Searching a vehicle is where the evidence lives. Papers documented on the community wiki's Drivers page include a Mayor Dawson newspaper, a wedding invitation, client files, and a Calendar Killer newspaper — the same lore threads covered on calendar-killer.

When do the pumps open? The two community sources disagree. The wiki's Shifts table says shift 4 introduces the gas station portion of the Midnight Mart, and lists a guaranteed human driver on that night. The Drivers page instead says drivers appear once the gas pump unlocks on shift 6. Neither claim appears in official patch notes, so treat the exact shift as not confirmed yet; shift 4 is the safer read, since a guaranteed-human driver is exactly how a game introduces a new mechanic.

Cleaning, pests and troublemakers

"Keep your store nice and clean" is official store-page wording, and the game keeps finding new ways to make that hard.

NuisanceFirst appearsWhat the community wiki says
RatsShift 3Minor enemies that roam the store
RoachesShift 8Small creatures that wander the gas station
TroublemakersShift 10 or 11 (sources disagree)Customers who disrupt others and drag your store rating down
RakesEndless Mode onlyEmerge from the forest; shoot them before they reach the store

Troublemakers are the fiddliest of these. The community wiki lists the acts they perform — urinating, vomiting, graffiti, smoking, sleeping on the floor, breakdancing, ringing the bell, lifting the soda machine — and says each one damages a specific score category. Three community-reported counters: gather toilet paper rolls, the method the in-game manager email describes; shoot them in the foot so they limp out; or spend tokens on vending machine bottles to throw. A second shot kills the troublemaker and costs you revenue. Note the source conflict — the Troublemaker page says shift 10, the Shifts table says shift 11.

Tokens are a side task of their own: a golden secondary currency scattered around the station, spent on sodas and hats. Prices and item lists are on shop-and-items.

Pets help. The developer's July 2026 pets announcement says a pet wanders the store, keeps you company and cleans up some of the mess customers leave behind, freeing you to stock, run the register and interrogate.

Revenue drains

Not every drain is a monster. The community wiki's Robber script shows the robber demanding you fill a bag, with the "give money" option costing 20 dollars. Killing a troublemaker also carries a revenue penalty. Both are community-documented, not official figures.

Task changes in Endless Mode

Endless Mode strips parts of the routine out. Per the 1 September 2026 patch notes, quota, personal funds and pet information were dropped from the End Of Day Report, emails were disabled, patience returned after being removed on 29 July, and security cameras now let you watch the forest edge from the computer. Full details on endless-mode.

Sources and last check

Checked 3 September 2026. The task list, quota framing and cleaning requirement come from the official Steam store page for Shift At Midnight. The gas pump duty — filling tanks and searching vehicles — and the warning about drivers come from the developer's 23 February 2026 demo announcement; the Endless Mode task changes, starting bear traps and planks, and the product price equalisation come from the 1 September 2026 and 20 August 2026 patch notes.

Everything about the loading bay gate, delivery timing, driver identities, troublemaker acts and counters, token uses, robber payouts, and the shift numbers for rats, roaches and the gas pump comes from the community-run Fandom wiki and is community-written, not official. Several of those pages (Restocking, Delivery, Gas Pump, Cars, Loading Bay) are one-sentence stubs, which is why this page carries few hard numbers. Where the wiki contradicts itself — shift 4 versus shift 6 for the pumps, shift 10 versus shift 11 for troublemakers — both readings are given above rather than picked. No player-written Steam guides were available. For quota figures see shifts; for the wider night routine see guide.
