Shift At Midnight Map: Midnight Mart, Bus Stop & Road

Updated 2026-09-03 · Steam Shift At Midnight

There is only one map in Shift At Midnight, and according to the community wiki it splits into three parts: the Gas Station, the Bus Stop and the Road. The gas station itself is Midnight Mart, and the community wiki divides it into five areas: the gas pumps, the store, the loading bay, the backroom (also called the break room) and the toilet. Everything you do on a shift happens inside that footprint.

That makes the shift at midnight map small but dense. Here is what each area is for, what shows up in it, and what the map does to you once a Hunt starts.

The three parts of the map

AreaWhat it isWhat appears there
Gas StationMidnight Mart, your workplace and where most of the game happensCustomers, deliveries, rats and roaches, the Entity during a Hunt
Bus StopWhere players arrive each night and where they go to end the nightThe bus
RoadA long, seemingly endless stretch running past the stationCustomers walking in, cars, the Car Doppelganger

The community wiki's Map page also notes a trash can and a generator outside the station. Separately, the gallery on the community wiki's Doppelgangers page captions one image as a stretched doppelganger showing up once the generator has been restarted, and another as a doppelganger lurking behind the store. Both captions are community-reported, not confirmed mechanics.

Inside Midnight Mart: the five areas

Midnight Mart, listed on the wiki simply as Gas Station, is broken into five parts.

Part of the MartPurposeNotes from the community wiki
Gas PumpsThe outdoor forecourt where cars pull inDrivers have to be served and their vehicles searched, same as customers
StoreThe main room where customers come in and shopShelves, front counter, register and the computer
Loading BayStorage attached to the store where deliveries arriveThe loading bay gate has to be opened before a delivery can come in
Backroom / Break RoomThe smallest area, at the far end of the storeThree doors: one to the store, one to the loading bay, one to the outdoors
ToiletWhere customers can use the toiletsIts outside doors are one of the routes the Entity can take

The break room is the most useful entry on that list. Three doors make it both a shortcut and a trap: you can loop from the store to the loading bay through it, but so can anything chasing you. The February 2026 demo patch notes also put the spin wheel in there. A wiki trivia note says the worker before you was called Andre.

The store floor

The store is where the detective half of the game happens. Customers take items off the shelves, come to the register, and you pack, scan their ID and question them. The computer sits in the store and, per the Steam store page, is what you use to cross-check a customer's details against the N.E.T. database. The wiki's Computer page is a stub, so treat any longer list of its functions as unconfirmed.

Two extra purposes are documented in patch notes rather than on the wiki: the February 2026 demo update put a randomised company store on the terminal, and the 1 September 2026 update added Endless Mode security cameras viewed on the computer, to watch the forest.

Store fixtures also become targets. Troublemakers are a customer type whose start shift the community wiki gives two different answers for: the Troublemaker page puts their first appearance on shift 10, while the Shifts table lists them as introduced on shift 11. No patch note resolves it. Whichever is right, they damage specific parts of the map: graffiti on the walls, mess on the floor, a head in the toilet, the soda machine lifted. Cleaning up is part of keeping the store rating up, covered on tasks.

Gas pumps, the road and the bus stop

The forecourt opens partway through the story. On the Fandom Shifts table, shift 4 is where the outdoor forecourt half of the Mart becomes available, while the Drivers page says drivers appear once the gas pump unlocks on shift 6. The two community pages disagree and no patch note settles it.

The road turns dangerous without warning. The Car Doppelganger is listed as appearing on the street next to Midnight Mart from shift 1, luring players to its car, chasing them and locking the gun. Norbert appears in the wiki gallery at a lemonade stand rather than at the counter; see monsters for threats by location.

The bus stop is the simplest area and the one people miss: every night starts and ends there, so finishing a shift means walking back to it.

What the map does during a Hunt

If a doppelganger walks out alive, it alerts the Entity and the map changes state at the end of the shift. The community wiki's Hunt page describes the sequence.

StageWhat happens to the map
A few seconds after the last checkoutPower shuts down, lights and the computer go dark, a faint red light fills the Mart
60-second countdownYour window to set traps, put up barricades and arm yourself
Entity entryUsually the front door; sometimes the back doors or the doors outside the toilet
Boarded doorsWooden boards are destroyed rather than held, which slows the Entity and does slight damage to it
Blood Moon variantThe armory stays shut until the Entity is below half health

The Entity is blind and hunts by sound, including proximity voice chat, so noise discipline matters more than the layout. Other creatures spawn alongside it, and the Demented is listed as roaming the entire market, freezing whenever a player looks at it. Full behaviour is on entity.

Hiding spots

The Steam store page and several official announcements tell you to barricade the doors, place traps and find a place to hide. None of them names a spot, and the community wiki has no hiding-place list, so specific hiding spots are not confirmed yet. What is documented:

  • The break room's three doors give you two ways out of any room you get cornered in.
  • Boarding the front, back and toilet doors buys time and chips the Entity's health as it breaks through.
  • The armory is unavailable during a Blood Moon Hunt until the Entity is hurt, so pre-buy weapons and traps before the shift ends.
  • Since the 1 September 2026 update, Endless Mode starts your first shift with two bear traps and two planks already in the storage room, and you can buy three extra bear traps instead of two. See endless-mode and shop-and-items.

Map changes shift by shift

Per the community wiki's Shifts table and monster pages, the map gains inhabitants as the story runs.

ShiftChange to the map
1Store only, tutorial tasks; the Car Doppelganger can appear on the street
3Rats start roaming the store
4Outdoor forecourt half of the Mart becomes available (Shifts table)
6Gas pump unlocked, drivers begin arriving (per the Drivers page)
7Thieves start entering the mart
8Roaches begin crawling around inside
9Marionettes join Entity attacks
10 or 11Troublemakers arrive and start damaging the store (Troublemaker page says shift 10, Shifts table says shift 11)

Shift-by-shift quotas and story beats are on shifts.

Midnight Town and Joe's Diner

Midnight Town is named on the wiki as the place the plot happens in, and Joe's Diner is a restaurant whose newsletter reaches your notice board, including an article about the diner burning down. Neither is a playable area, and as of 3 September 2026 no source describes the player leaving the gas station, road and bus stop.

Sources and last check

Checked on 3 September 2026. The map layout, the five parts of Midnight Mart, the break room's three doors, the loading bay gate, the Hunt sequence, the shift-by-shift table and the Car Doppelganger details come from the community-written Shift At Midnight Fandom: its Map, Midnight Mart, Break Room, Loading Bay, Bus Stop, Computer, Hunt, Shifts, Drivers and Troublemaker pages. The two generator and behind-the-store doppelganger sightings come from the gallery captions on that wiki's separate Doppelgangers page, not from the Map page. Those are all community pages, not official documentation, and several are marked as stubs. Two of them contradict each other twice: shift 4 versus shift 6 for the gas pumps, and shift 10 versus shift 11 for Troublemakers. Neither conflict is settled by a patch note.

Official facts come from developer patch notes on Steam: the 1 September 2026 update for Endless Mode security cameras on the computer, the pre-placed bear traps and planks in the storage room, and the extra bear trap purchase; the 23 February 2026 demo update for the terminal shop, the break room spin wheel and the outdoor gas station area; plus the Steam store page for the instruction to board up, set traps and hide. Where patch notes and the wiki disagree, the patch notes win.
