Every one of the Shift At Midnight customers who walks up to your register is a small identity puzzle: scan the ID, pull the person up in the N.E.T. database, and question them about the photo, the date of birth, the listed occupation and each recorded physical trait. The community wiki currently documents roughly 158 named character pages, of which about 84 have enough filled-in data to check against, and Bun Muen has been adding more all summer: 15 arrived in the 20 August 2026 patch and another 30 in the 1 September 2026 patch. This page collects every walk-up customer whose database entry the wiki has actually recorded, so you can memorise the traits that gangers get wrong.

One warning before the tables. Not every name with a character page is somebody you will ever serve. Nineteen of the profiled names carry the wiki's Unseen Characters tag, and most of those also carry Unmentioned Characters, meaning the page exists only because the name turns up in a file or a family tree rather than at the counter. Those nineteen are pulled out into their own section further down, so the two big tables below contain only characters the wiki records as arriving in the store.

Names, jobs, birth dates and traits below come from the community wiki's character infoboxes, checked on 3 September 2026. Customer counts and patch content come from the developer's own Steam announcements, which are the authoritative source when the two disagree.

How the customer check actually works

According to the community wiki's Customers page, the loop is the same every time. Customers pick items off the shelves, walk to the register, and then you bag their goods, scan the ID card they place on the counter, and interrogate them before finalising the sale. A wrong or strange answer is your cue that this is not a person.

The interrogation is split into two menus, and reading through the wiki's transcript pages shows the same headings on nearly every customer:

Two extra tools unlock partway through story mode. Per the community wiki's Shifts page, the Anomaly Lens arrives on Shift 9 and the Emotiscope on Shift 11. The Lens is a second opinion on appearance: several doppelgangers give themselves away only through it, such as Aria Romero's copy showing a distorted face, Ren Takahashi's reading as a cat, and Net Pongsak's levitating while staring straight at the camera. The Emotiscope reports a mood instead, printing a line along the lines of "This person is feeling" followed by one or two emotions, which the customer then reacts to.

Why does the file know so much about strangers? The wiki's N.E.T. page explains it in-universe: the Non-human Eradication Taskforce issues the ID cards, photographs people, and records whatever notable details apply to them, sometimes without asking. Several customers grumble about it. That grumbling is exactly what you are listening for.

If the check goes wrong and the customer turns out to be a ganger, the wiki's advice is blunt: shoot them. A body shot makes them flee and forces a second shot, while a headshot kills outright. The tells themselves are covered in more depth on how to spot doppelgangers.

Full customer list with database traits

These are the customers whose date of birth and recorded traits are both documented on the community wiki. The last column is the wiki's own "species" flag: Human means the page marks them a guaranteed human, Always a ganger means the page marks them a guaranteed doppelganger, Can be a ganger means the roll is randomised, and Not confirmed means the field is blank or contradictory. Treat the flags as community-recorded, not official.

Note on the table: the wiki carries near-identical pages for Harold Brant and Harold Brent, same job, same 15 March 1954 birth date, same two traits, which looks like a duplicate rather than two people, so only one row is listed above. The Harold Brant page leaves the species field empty; the Harold Brent page fills it in with a bare "Yes" linked to a Harold Brant's Doppelganger page. That bare form is the same one Barry Aoki, Clyde Dawson, Darla Groves and a dozen other pages use, and it is read as a randomised roll everywhere on this page, so the row above is flagged the same way rather than as a guaranteed copy. Nothing on either page marks the name as always arriving as a ganger.

Customers on file with no traits recorded yet

These pages have a name, a job and a date of birth but no filled-in trait list. They still matter, because a birth date alone is a check you can run at the register, and because the ganger flag tells you which ones to be nervous about.

The guaranteed doppelgangers worth memorising

Fifteen of the documented customers are flagged on the community wiki as always arriving as a copy rather than the real person. If one of these names appears on the ID card, the question is no longer whether, only when you can prove it and reach for a weapon.

Brandon Keller, Cara Hastings, Crystal Compton, Dave Buster, Dmitri Markou, Dylan Pike, Elise Hart, Emilia Carter, Grace Harper, Greta Darling, Howard Elkins, Jade Sinclair, Maya Davila, Ramona Delgado and Vivien Marrow all carry the guaranteed flag. Rudnick Wex is flagged the same way, though his page also lists him as deceased. Harold Brant is not on this list: his duplicate page uses the ambiguous bare marker described under the trait table, which points to a randomised roll instead.

Be careful with that list. It is player-compiled, not a developer statement, and the wiki's own Customers page still shows only seven doppelganger entries in its summary table while the separate Doppelgangers page lists thirteen. The per-character pages are the more current of the two. Full profiles and the visual differences live on doppelgangers.

The mirror image is just as useful: the pages that flag a customer as a guaranteed human. Among the names that actually reach the counter, Amiah Gutierrez, Anita Varma, Bartholomew Kessler, Bonnie McCree, Colin Shirley, Diane Hays, Dilbert Hickman, Grace Wong, Hao Chen, Kevin Larson, Roger Conroy and Ryan Holt are all recorded as safe. Shooting a human costs you, so these are the names where a suspicious-looking answer is worth double-checking before you act. Most of the other human-flagged pages belong to the unseen group in the next section, which is why that group is no help at the register.

Mentioned but never seen

These nineteen names have character pages on the community wiki, and several of them have a job title, a birth date and even a trait line, but none of them carries the wiki's Customers category and none of them is recorded as walking up to the register. They sit under Unseen Characters, and most sit under Unmentioned Characters as well, which the wiki uses for people who exist only as a relative or a database entry rather than as somebody the player meets. Nothing here is worth memorising for the register; it is listed so you do not go looking for a customer who never arrives.

Two of these entries do carry filled-in trait lines, Russel Crane with a bald head and an extremely muscular build and Yui Aung noted for her looks and figure, which is presumably why they drift into customer lists in the first place. A traits column with no register visit behind it is decoration, not a check you can run. Yui Aung's page is doubly muddled: its opening line calls her a customer while its categories file her as both unseen and unmentioned.

One page muddies the split: Maya Davila's article ends with two conflicting navigation blocks, one filing her under Customers and one under Unseen Characters, even though she has in-game photos, a Midnight News pairing and a guaranteed doppelganger. She is kept in the customer tables above on that evidence, but the tag clash is the wiki's, not a judgement call made here.

Customers tied to the Midnight News

One clever wrinkle the community wiki documents: the randomised Midnight News notice you get at the start of a shift is linked to a specific customer who then shows up that night. Reading the notice tells you who to expect.

The wiki also lists three more pairings it has flagged as unverified: a wanted criminal story with Raymond Kessler, Stacy Kennedy's death with David Kennedy, and Walter Davila's disappearance with Maya Davila. Note that three of the four confirmed pairings, Keller, Carter and Harper, are guaranteed doppelgangers, so a Midnight News notice is effectively a warning. This is community-documented and worth testing yourself.

Which customers show up on which night

Story mode runs 13 shifts, and the community wiki's Shifts page records notable arrivals for most of them. This is a partial picture, since randomised customers fill the gaps, but the scripted appearances are consistent.

Shift 1 doubles as the tutorial: Clyde Dawson is your first customer and he walks you through scanning an ID. Shift 2 drops the tutorial and introduces randomised customers, so it is the first night where the list above stops being a guarantee. The night-by-night breakdown continues on shifts.

Not everyone who enters the store is there to buy something. Troublemakers are humans who urinate, vomit, smoke, breakdance, blast an airhorn or graffiti a wall, each act dragging down a category of your store rating. The wiki disagrees with itself on when they start: the Troublemaker page puts their first appearance on shift 10, while the Shifts table introduces them alongside the Emotiscope on shift 11. Either way, the wiki says the manager's own advice is to shoo them off with rolls of toilet paper, that shooting one in the foot also works but a second shot kills them and costs you revenue, and that bottles bought from the vending machine with tokens can be thrown at them instead. A swarm of them turns up during shift 12 or 13.

Customers the wiki has not documented yet

The developer's 1 September 2026 announcement confirms 30 new customers were added to both story mode and endless mode, on top of the 15 added on 20 August. The community wiki has created pages for many of these names but has not filled in their infoboxes. Names sitting in that state right now include Dia Nuur, Frank Park, Frankie Bell, Imani Green, Jin Seo, John Smith, Labron Knight, Misaki Ono, Molly Foster, Nico Sethi, Nolan Sterling, Samir Haddad, Tiana King, Tomas Vega, Tony Marconi, Trey Banks, Troy Howes, Yvonne Johnson, Kelechi Okafor, Louisa Mari, Margot Beaumont, Mark Ellison, Mateo Benitez, Net Pongsak, Randy Patel, Raymond Kessler, Richard McCree, Rimple Urkel, Rolf Bush, Toby Finch, Victor Hale and Wade Callahan.

Several of them already have transcript pages and doppelganger pages even though the trait fields are blank, which suggests the data is coming. Norbert is the odd one out and popular enough to have his own writeup at norbert; the wiki links him to the Dilbert Hickman page. Where the total customer count is concerned, the wiki's own list literally reads as an unfilled question mark, so no reliable grand total exists yet. What is confirmed is the direction of travel, tracked on patch notes.

What happens when you get it wrong

Letting a doppelganger through the register is not a quiet mistake. Per the community wiki, one slip forces the night into its defensive phase, where you board up, set traps and hide from what is loose inside the store. That is the territory of the entity and the other threats that come with it.

The developer's own store description frames the whole loop the same way: investigate the customer, examine the ID, cross-check details on the computer, watch how they behave, because some are only pretending to be human. The same page lists multiplayer and proximity chat among the headline features and says the game is at its best with other people, working together or simply being in the room together. How a group divides the register and the computer between them is not something the developer or the research sources spell out, so any specific role split is not confirmed yet.

All customer names, occupations, dates of birth, recorded traits and doppelganger flags on this page were taken from the Shift At Midnight community wiki on 3 September 2026, specifically its Customers page, its Doppelgangers page, its Shifts page, its Midnight News page, its Troublemaker page, its N.E.T. page, its Unseen Characters and Unmentioned Characters category listings, and the individual character and transcript pages behind them. That wiki is written by players, not by the developer, so every trait, flag and Midnight News pairing above should be read as community-recorded and open to correction. The wiki itself marks several of these entries incomplete, its two doppelganger lists do not currently agree with each other, its Troublemaker and Shifts pages give different starting shifts, and at least one character page files itself under both the customer and the unseen categories.

The customer counts and update contents are official: the 30 new customers come from the developer's 1 September 2026 Steam announcement, and the 15 earlier ones from the 20 August 2026 announcement, both posted by Bun Muen. The description of the investigate-and-verify loop matches the game's own Steam store text. Where the announcements and the wiki disagree, the announcements win.
